For the music man:
Liverpool isn’t shy of celebrating its musical heritage, and rightly so! Everyone knows The Beatles and how they put the city on the map however, there’s a great collection of plenty more music marvels on display at British Music Experience. This museum is also located just beside the Royal Liver Building, which only opened its doors to the public this year and offers panoramic views of the waterfront and city.
The Cunard Building, where you’ll find the British Music Experience, is one of Liverpool’s ‘Three Graces’ alongside the Royal Liver Building and Port of Liverpool Building, all of which are ranked must-sees of Liverpool.
Inside the BME you can view outfits donned by Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust era, stage outfits worn by The Rolling Stones, instruments played by Sex Pistols, hand written lyrics by Adele and lots more unique displays. There’s even a very interesting hologram of Boy George which really can’t be missed.. Any music fan dad is sure to thoroughly enjoy taking it all in, and even try his hand at some rock n roll himself at the Gibson Brands Interactive Studio. Here there’s instruments readily available for trying out, from Les Pauls to Roland Drums, even something a bit funkier on the synthesisers! If he’s guilty of making your ears bleed at home belting out the classics, he can even get in the booth to really sing his heart out whilst you’re spared the sound!!
British Museum Experience is open 7 days a week 10.00-18.00 and is situated just a short, and very pleasant walk from our hotel.
The Culture Vulture
St George’s Quarter boasts a wealth of history and culture for the city of Liverpool, with The World Museum & Central Library equally celebrating a combination of incredible architecture and educational displays. Never before seen pages are exhibited carefully within Central Library, as well as dedicating Hornsby Room to a collection of rare books. Picton Reading room is a breath-taking Grade II listed construction within the library and will capture the heart of any true old-fashioned bookworm. Situated on the fourth floor of the library is a roof terrace with seating, where views of Victoria Park can be enjoyed (hopefully with a bit of sun).
Within the neoclassical building of St George’s Hall, you can spend time looking around the once law courts and cells below, checking out the heritage of the Hall and its involvement in law and order, but interestingly you can then enjoy the view of the Grand Hall, home of the third largest organ in Britain. A bizarre combination you might think, but one that ticks all the boxes for a history buff! The hall was used for concerts and you can certainly imagine the atmosphere it must have generated, with no shortage of photo opportunities around.
These attractions are brilliant for an easy going leisurely kind of father, who likes to take his time to really enjoy his surroundings and source out all the trivial history and facts alike. Plus, a free guided walking tour of Liverpool begins at this venue, for those who fancy a 3 hour wander around the city with a passionate guide, full of information about the sights on route.
The food dude
Whether it’s a meat feast burger or meat free platter, dad’s belly will not go empty in Liverpool! There’s plenty of options such as an almighty gut buster burger at Red Dog Saloon, try a selection of Indian tapas street foods Mowgli (an inventive vegan menu) or a combination of both at Baltic Market food hall, all with plenty of independent breweries and distilleries to check out for a refreshment afterward. The Liverpool Gin Distillery offers chance to create your own gin whilst Kazimier Garden is split over two floors and has a wide rotation of different craft beers and ales. All of these are within short walking distance from our hotel, with plenty of other hot spots to pop in along the way.
The action man
Does your dad fancy himself a bit of a thrill seeker of action buff? Just a half hour drive from our hotel he can enjoy the Land Rover Experience, an all terrain tour offering a hands-on opportunity to test out one of the latest models on an off road course. This is a fantastic idea to really spoil him on Father’s Day and something he’s sure to boast about for long after!
And then.. relax...
don’t forget, after all the fun he’s enjoyed and not had to worry about organising (maybe for the first time ever!) there’ll be a bed awaiting his return for a great night sleep, and well deserved rest. There’s something for every kind of guy here in the city, and we’re perfectly located in the heart of it all. Book him the ultimate gift and give him a personal guide to his perfect city break.
